Mr. Schneider provided the following abstract:
Korea is probably the only country to successfully engineer "creative destruction". This concept, coined by the Austrian Economist Joseph Schumpeter, points at strategies failing if they are not adapted, as economic cycles advance. Korea showed that it can adapt its economic strategies, even if they seem successful and not in need of a change. At the height of the chaebols' performance, Korea decided to break their power; as Keynesian economics seemed to be the only remedy to the crisis in 1997, Korea responded by liberalizing its economy even more. As a result, the country not only emerged as a fully developed economy (G-20 and OECD member), it is also one of the few to pass the "middle income trap". This hidden economic miracle needs to be better understood in order to continue to exist.
